Richard ChauDavis (Baer) graduated from the College of Creative Studies, UCSB, in 1979 with a BA in painting and drawing. During college and afterwards Richard took up art photography. Initially doing focused shoots trailing a person through their day, interspersed with studies of odd locations and alleyways.
After moving to San Diego Richard created a ‘Dark Space’ in his garage (along with a darkroom). During this time he showed mostly at San Diego Art Institute. The Dark Space went through several permutations becoming more and more sexual. Erotic would be a misleading term… Along the way were several regional shows at SDAI, a one person show, charity events, etc.
A neighbor introduced Richard to a computer (385 with about 30 megs…) several years ago. Eventually the darkroom was shutdown and the art went digital. Richard caught Joe Flazh!’s interest and was given a one person show at Flazh!Alley in San Pedro (‘Room Service, images from the No-Tell Motel’). Since then, Richard has finished some photo series, paintings, performance pieces. Current work has been shown locally at Ray Street, The Art of Digital Show, UA Art Guild, The Garage, Friends of East County Artist 3rd annual Alley Cat Show, the 14th El Cajon Invitational Art Exhibit, ‘Pajama Party’ at the Garage, Trash at Leftovers which is the kitchen part of Vacancy II; Vacancy 3, The Kitchen; I Caught You Peeking 2 (Garage); The Tainted Milk Project; One Person Show at SDAI titled “Old, Tainted, Trashed and Recycled”. His latest projects in conjunction with Roberta Kuntz have centered around ArtGymSD, in NTC, Larry's Garage, and at SDAI 'Museum of the Living Artist.'
