Talked to a person who thought this piece should be titled the scream and seeing it ruined their gallery experience. Thought the piece was evocative of violence against women and a slap at International Women's Day. Shook me up. After a lot of thinking I decided that piece does not in anyway glorify or sexulaize violence. It does speak to pain and the comfort a person can give. Nobody was harmed or abused in its creation. I hope that I have talked about pain without being abusive and that if this piece does talk about the pain from abuse it also talks about those who give aid and comfort after that abuse. For me the work was about growing old and how our mortality takes everything from us and the comfort that comes from someone who is there to listen to our hoarse and barley intelligible whispers.
